Objective:
Hazard is an ancient dice game that predates modern craps. The objective of Hazard is to bet on the outcome of the roll of two dice. The game can be played by any number of players, but it's often played against a banker (the house). Bets can be made between the dice shooter (Caster) and the bank and between spectators and the bank.
Materials:
- 2 dice.
- Remaining dice to be used as currency or chips or other form of currency.
- It is recommended to play this game with multiple sets of Gold Cup Dice to ensure that all players have sufficient betting tokens.
Gameplay:
- One person is the caster (dice shooter).
- The remaining players act as the banker or it is determined using a fair method, or it is the host of the game.
- The caster places their bet on the table
- The caster rolls the two dice to determine their "Main". They roll until they hit a number between 5 and 9 (inclusive).
Main Roll
- The caster can either win or lose when rolling after establishing the Main, or they can move to a "Chance" Round
- the Reference table for winning and losing is found below
Winning a Main Roll:
- Winning a roll is called "Nick'ing" or winning the "Nick". The Caster will win their bet 1:1.
- Rolling the Main call is a Nick.
- Depending on the Caster's Main call, different numbers will Nick as highlighted below:
- 5 Main: 5
- 6 Main: 6, 12
- 7 Main: 7, 11
- 8 Main: 8, 12
- 9 Main: 9
Losing a Main Roll:
- Losing a roll is called "Outing" or throwing an "Out". The caster will lose all of their bets.
- Depending on the Caster's Main call, different numbers will Out as highlighted below:
- 5 Main: 2, 3, 11, 12
- 6 Main: 2, 3, 11
- 7 Main: 2, 3, 12
- 8 Main: 2, 3, 11
- 9 Main: 2, 3, 11, 12
Chance Roll :
- If a caster does not throw a Nick or an Out, then they will throw again in a Chance Roll.
- Depending on the Caster's Main call, different numbers can become the Chance Number as highlighted below:
- 5 Main: 4,6,7,8,9,10
- 6 Main: 4,5,7,8,9,10
- 7 Main: 4,5,6,8,9,10
- 8 Main: 4,5,6,7,9,10
- 9 Main: 4,5,6,7,8,10
- Once a caster has moved to a Chance roll, they can choose to bet a Chance Stake (against the banker) that the caster will hit the Chance Number before the Main.
- The caster will throw the dice, and if they hit the Chance Number, will be paid out 1:1 on their initial Stake, and the odds of the Chance Stake determined in the below table.
Observers Betting:
- Once a caster has moved to a Chance roll, other observers can also choose to bet a Chance Stake (against the banker) that the caster will hit the Chance Number before the Main.
- The caster will throw the dice, and if they hit the Chance Number, All betting observers will be paid out their Chance Stake based on the below table.
Continuing Rounds:
- The caster will continue to throw until they have lost three times, from there the dice will be placed with the player to the left position to become the new caster.
Changing the Banker:
- The banker has a slight edge in this game, it is important to fairly rotate the banker, or have the banker draw from a separate bank, unless house rules are in play.
Variations:
- Instead of rolling to determine the Main, a caster may choose the main themselves, but this tends towards players choosing only 7 as it has the highest odds of winning.
- If you would like to add a variation to these rules, leave an Amazon review with the variation in the review for it will be added to this section.
